Anne Frank Good at Heart
Good at Heart I believe people are truly good at heart. Despite what has happened with every bad thing in this world. Everyone knows knows there are still good people. Anyone can tell me that I can't comprehend the loss and hurt and destruction that the world and the people of it are willing to dish out. And in a way, that is right. I'm blessed with such a lack in my experience. Loving and praying for something good is the strongest thing we can do to help make a change to a better world. This world is blessed with the fact that humans can forgive. Another dead body or revenge will not heal the past, even though it may cushion it.But people are truly good at heart. The bad boys aren't born bad and don't die bad. Most of the time they are forced to portray a character, different and distinct from what they are, sadly they adapt that character and forgot who they really are. ââ¬Å"It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart. â⬠from the Diary of Anne Frank (last entry). Iââ¬â¢ve been thinking about what it would be like to be that daughter or sister or mother of someone killed in cold blood. And I still canââ¬â¢t say another dead body would soothe my pain. The last time Anne was seen by two of her friends, most of her precious family were dead. She was bald, emaciated and shivering. In February, 1945 she told her friends that she didn't want to live any longer. In March of the same year, she tragically died. But I think that no matter what happens to me, what kind of hurt I see, despite everything, I will still believe that people are generally good and beautiful and wonderful and lovable. And people do things that are destructive and horrific and cruel and monstrous, but I still canââ¬â¢t do it.Matthew 5:44 says: ? â⬠But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you ma y be sons of your Father in heaven. â⬠If we want to grow as individuals and as a country, we have to realize how precious forgiveness is. We are not only blessed to receive forgiveness, but we are also blessed with the capability to forgive. Our hearts are bigger than we will ever let them be, because we are too red-blooded and proud to let us love someone who was hurt us. Despite everything, I still believe that loving a person, forgiving a person, praying for a person, is stronger than anything else we could do.This is how I feel still tonight. A dead body canââ¬â¢t heal the wounds our country has had for the past ten years. A dead body doesnââ¬â¢t give us back all the fear as the airplane wheels left the ground. It doesnââ¬â¢t give us back lost men and women of the military. It doesnââ¬â¢t give me back my hours debating our presence in Afghanistan even. As I see my Facebook feed fill with chanting cries of victory and God Bless Americas, I fell itââ¬â¢s all i n vain. Deep down people are truly good. Rather, you choose not to believe that God is rich in mercy, and because of that, you end up with a revolting image that you have created in your own mind.Don't forget that when Anne Frank said that she believed that people were truly good at heart, she was still in hiding with her family. Her naive faith in human goodness may have been shaken when she and her family were taken to Auschwitz in 1944, and her father was separated from her. At 15 years old, she was then forced to strip naked, disinfected, had her head shaved, and was tattooed with an identifying number on her arm. She was then used as slave labor until disease caused her skin to became badly infected by scabies. But, I still canââ¬â¢t condemn someone when I know myself what little things I have done.Especially when the the world is full of billions of people who are good at heart. As a person, you would consider yourself good right? Even though we all have made mistakes we ar e not bad people. Truly we are all good. The surest sign of our faith is our ability to love those who have crossed against us if we are incapable of this, we may need to look at ourselves a little closer. I just hope that those I have crossed will not celebrate at my death, but rather release the pain I have caused them along with me, and go forward in love.

See intructions - Essay Example The person or group of persons is what Hobbes calls sovereign (Lloyd-Hughes 151). The sovereign enters into a covenant with the people to provide them with peace and defense in return for surrendering their rights. However, he or she is guided by laws and in case the sovereign fails to protect the subjects, they can remove him from power. The citizens thus accept such a sovereign in order to ensure peace and protection. In state of nature, men are competitive and need someone to safeguard their property. Q2: Hobbes: State of Nature In the state of nature according to Hobbes, the life of man is ââ¬Å"solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and shortâ⬠(Lloyd-Hughes 149). Men in this state are equal in body and minds thus become enemies often. Moreover they are primitive thus have ââ¬Å"no industry, culture, cannot account for time, have no arts and no societyâ⬠(149). As s result, these men quarrel most of the time as they compete with each other. They become brutish and nasty and solitary as they live in continued fear and danger of death. Furthermore, they are not aware of what is right or wrong thus engage in war against each other all the time. They are also poor and do not have accommodation or own property. It is the sovereign who apportions them land and proscribes rules of ownership after a government is formed. Q3: Liberty According to natural laws all men have the natural right of liberty and as such, use such liberty to preserve his life. Even though the renounce this right for greater gain to the sovereign, they never lose the right to life and liberty (Lloyd-Hughes 150). However, there are boundaries to these liberties. An individual cannot use this liberty to inflict harm on himself or others as consequences follow as set out in the laws of the land. Liberty is to be used only to do what is profitable to them. Liberty is also limited to the particular commonwealth as each jurisdiction has its own laws what is acceptable by one nation may not be acceptable by another. Subjects also have a right to sue against subjects for violating their rights. Q4: Machiavelli: Skill (virtu) and Fortune (Fortuna) Nicollo Machiavelli in the Prince did differentiate between skill and fortune. He referred to fortune as the ability to become a prince through luck or opportunities. For example the Theseus succeeded to conquer Athenians because Athenians were dispersed (Lloyd-Hughes 91-92). That is sheer luck and wise kinds should not rely on it as fortunes can change any time. Many princes inherited dynasties but could not keep them due to lack of skills; for example, the king of Naples. Great princes are those who have the skills and ability to control fortunes such as ruthlessness, bravery and pride. This is due to the fact that ââ¬Å"fortune rules half of our actionsâ⬠¦.the other half is determined by skill and abilityâ⬠(91). He says that God sends us floods but men can change future events by taking actions that can control the f loods in future. Q5: Is It Better for Ruler to be Loved or Feared? For Machiavelli, most people would like to be loved and feared at the same time but it is much better to be feared than loved. This is because in their nature, men are ââ¬Å"ungrateful, fickle, false, and cowardlyâ⬠(Lloyd-Hughes 97). As such, these men give promises to the ruler only to retreat when things get worse. They do everything for their own interest and betray you at any time. He also claims that men love on their own will

Macro-3 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Macro-3 - Essay Example because aside from transportation costs, and other costs that are related to international trade which are included in the price of goods when they enter another market is not present when it is bought where it is produced. Second, the prices in the United States are affected by stiff competition, which is influenced by information about book prices on the internet, which causes book prices to drop. While I cannot assume that this is not happening in the Philippines, the fact that the United States is one of the countries that utilizes the internet heavily as for the information regarding prices, in order to regulate competition can be one of my solid bases. Thus, generally, I could expect that book prices in other countries such as the Philippines would be higher. This case proves to be inconsistent with the purchasing-power parity. While the theory assumes that the purchasing power parity can equalize the prices over the long-run, during the years because of market influences such as competition in one country which lowers down the price, or economic influences such as trade costs in another country which increases the price can cause divergence in prices. This purchase situation therefore, is inconsistent with the purchasing power parity if gauged for many years before prices generally equalize. 2. What is the importance of trade agreements and how is international trade related to the standard of living of the United States (as opposed to that of a small industrial nation or to a developing nation)? What significance do trade agreements have to your own company? Trade agreements are important in such a way that dealing with other countries regarding trade has significant economic impacts to a firm conducting the agreement. Different countries have different restrictions and economic policies as regards trade, which can impact the firmââ¬â¢s operations in that country. Trade agreements are made depending on the restriction of the country and the chosen mode of

Cultural Change and Transformation Throughout Military History Essay
Cultural Change and Transformation Throughout Military History - Essay Example The role of cultural understanding as a factor influencing military operations is examined in this paper. Reference is made to two particular military operations: the American Civil War and the Operation Iraqi...... The economic development between the North and the South was not equal; the North, based on the principle of freedom of all people no matter their race, was able to absorb the immigrants and support a rapid industrial development. On the contrary, the South where immigrants were needed for supporting the farming activities of the local population, different rules ââ¬â in terms of equality among people ââ¬â existed. In South, farmers were asking for more slaves in order to respond to the needs of the continuously increased production. For example, the production of cotton in South was increased to ââ¬Ë2.3 billion pounds in 1860, i.e. at about 230 percent during the 1850sââ¬â¢ (Macrohistory and World Report 2011, online article). Under the above terms, the number of slaves in USA was continuously increased, reaching in 1860 the 3,953,760 ââ¬â from 1.2 million in 1800s (Macrohistory and World Report 2011, online article). Almost all slaves were living in South, a fact that led to the clear cultural differentiation between North and South. In South, the political and military authorities respected the principles of equality and freedom; in South, slavery was the rule for black and people in minorities. In terms of the characteristics of the society also, North was different from South; in North, middleclass people represented the high percentage of the population, a fact that led to the development of different ethics and culture compared to the South where the distinction between the classes was significant; two main social classes could be identified in South: the farmers and the poor people (Macrohistory and World Report 2011, online article). On the other hand, in North people did not have many chances for entertainment. They

Analysis of an important sources related to the previous research Term Paper
Analysis of an important sources related to the previous research - Term Paper Example Durkheim firmly believed that sociology is the ââ¬Ëscience ofà institutionsââ¬â¢, which aimed to delineate the structural "social facts" (Durkheim, 1895, 13). à He opined that social science should be holistic in nature and appeal, meaning that sociology should be the study of various incidents from the lives of common men which can be associated with the society at large, instead of just limiting oneself to studying the actions of just one individual. It is this very aspect that prompted me to choose Durkheimââ¬â¢s book Suicide (first published in 1897), for my research paper. The book enables one to comprehend the fact that suicide by a certain section of the population (young male population) at regular intervals reflects a grave social problem. It is thus necessary that we view the various instances of the young male suicides in UK together as one incident, and examine this incident from a broader social perspective, with a holistic angle. Durkheim believed that ââ¬Å"society is a unity which displays characteristics that cannot be reduced to those of its component individualsâ⬠(Giddens, 2). If we wish examine this theory in the context of the large number young males that commit suicide both in UK and worldwide, we will have to review the entire scenario from a new perspective and search for certain fundamental reasons that are driving all these young men to commit suicide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) more than 90,000 adolescents in the age group of 10-19 years commit suicide every year, while more than 4 million in this age range attempt suicide, worldwide (WHO, 2001), while in UK suicide forms to be the ââ¬Å"The [second] biggest killers of boys and young men are suicide (10%)â⬠(Boseley, Drink and drugs a leading cause of young deaths, 2009). It is seemingly impossible that such large numbers of young people committing suicide worldwide are doing so for the mere sake of some isolated personal reasons. So
